Frequently Asked Questions

What is goal of the Connected Challenge?

The Connected Challenge is the first online hackathon focused on connected objects, reaching out to developers and creative people of all types (designers, business developers, etc.), devoted to the best technologies in the connected object universe. Aware of the stakes and the development potential of digital technologies in terms of international influence, the Connected Challenge’s online hackathon brings together high-potential players from Europe and Silicon Valley: talented developers, major companies, and start-ups of the future!

What is an online hackathon?

A traditional hackathon is an event where developers join forces to create innovative applications. We’re moving beyond the usual (48-hour) format, which isn’t enough time to make finished and functional applications. The online version, intended to be an international event, will make it possible for all to participate!

What is an API?

An API (Application Programming Interface) is a collection of functions used to access an application’s services, with a programming language as intermediary.

I’m a designer/business developer/student/other. May I participate?

Any person age 18 or over interested in innovation who wants to create an innovative prototype can participate! No specific level is required.

Do I need to know how to code?

No, not at all! You sign up for the Connected Challenge as a team. At least one person per team must have coding skills if you want to create a prototype; other members don’t need to be able to do so. Anyone with skills useful in the process of creating an application or innovative service is welcome. You might work in marketing, have a great idea, or be a designer, graphic designer, or business developer, or you might be an entrepreneur or have project management, business, or project presentation skills.

Should I sign up alone or as a team?

After signing up on the platform hackate.am, create a team or join one. You can find members using the platform, which will suggest people to you. Teams will multiple skill sets will be most likely to come up with the most innovative idea!

I don’t know any developers or makers—what should I do?

When you sign up for the challenge, you’ll create your team by specifying what team members you need. If developers are interested in your profile and your team presentation blurb, they can offer to join your team and your skills can complement each other.

How do I participate?
